Total Tranmere reporter Deadly Submarine took time out this week to chat to two Grimsby Town fans ahead of the Carling Cup tie on Tuesday night to get their voews on the game ahead as well as Grimsby's chances of promotion at the end of the 2008/09 season come next May. Here the first of the two interviews..............
What is you name and for how long have you supported Grimsby Town?
My names Nathaniel Pidgeon and I have supported Grimsby for around 28 years.
ABOUT YOUR CLUB
What is your most memorable Grimsby Town moment/match?
That would have to be our first visit to Wembley in the Football League Trophy where we beat Bournemouth 2-1 aet.
Your worst moment supporting Grimsby Town?
Getting relegated from League One which has now seen us entering our fifth season in League Two.
In your eyes who is Grimsby's All-Time Greatest Player and why?
That would have to be John McDermott, Join us has a trainee and went on to play 625 league games for us and has never played for any other senior club.
Taxi For? (To which Player would you pay a Taxi Fare to leave the Club?)
Richard Hope, only just joined us from Wrexham but have heard about Wrexham fans calling him useless and hopeless. He may turn out good for us but only time will tell.
Which Grimsby player can do most damage to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday Night?
If our outfield players are not doing good then it would have to be our keeper Phil Barnes, he pulled of some good saves last season.
Is Alan Buckley the right man to get Grimsby out of League Two?
I think he can be, he's got us to Wembley twice in 1998 and we left on both occasions with a win. Picking up the Football League Trophy and promotion back to the old Division One.
Any Grimsby Chants we should try to listen out for at the game?
Your more than likely to hear the chant of Mariners, but dragged out, more like Maaarrrriiiiinnneeerrrrsss and you might hear the classic of we only sing when where fishing.
LEAGUE TWO VIEWS
What is your Top Two Prediction for League Two this season?
I would have to go for Chesterfield and Port Vale to be up there come the end of the season.
Play-Off Winners?
Bit of a tough choice, think any number of teams could be challenging but to pick one I would go for Bradford.
Your tip for the Bottom Three places?
With Luton stating on -30, they have to be my choice for bottom and for the other relegated team, would have to go with Exeter and to finish above them Dagenham & Redbridge.
THE TWO CLUBS
Where do you think Grimsby Town will finish this season?
Based on our pre-season friendlies, which have not gone well, I think we could be struggling to make a top half finish. So would have to go for a mid table finish of 14th.
Do you think Tranmere will be Promoted/Relegated from League One and why?
I'm not 100% sure Tranmere will get promoted but I don't think you will get relegated. I'd have to go for a position of around 9th.
Gary Jones was a Tranmere hero! Does he have the same status at Blundell Park?
I would say that he had a similar status with the fans but unfortunately Gary Jones left in the summer and I think he is now without a club but he has done well and it is disappointing he has left the club has our supporters were hoping to see a replacement similar to Jones or better still, Jones to of stayed.
What is your Prediction for Tuesday's game between the sides?
I think we could struggle but we have had good cup runs in the past so I'd go for a 1-1 draw, with us to grab the win on penalties, sorry.
Any other comments to add?
To the fans that are going to be travelling to Blundell Park on Tuesday night have a good night out in Cleethorpes, enjoy the game and to all Tranmere fans good luck in League One and enjoy the season.
