Steve Davies Tribunal Date Cancelled

Derby County have today stressed their disappointment at the cancellation of next Tuesday’s Steve Davies Tribunal hearing at short notice for as yet unconfirmed reasons. Rovers had been due to find out at the hearing, how much compensation they would receive for Davies’s summer transfer to The Rams.

With the day of judgement fast approaching, their was disappointment in the East Midlands today as the tribunal date for the transfer of Steve Davies from Tranmere to Derby County in the summer was cancelled at just two working days notice.

Rovers were set to find out how much compensation the Championship side would have to pay them for the transfer of the winger who is under the age of 24, thus sparking the tribunal rule off but that decision will now be delayed.

The reason for the cancellation has not been confirmed by the Football League but it is believed to be down to the fact that the Rovers Chairman Lorraine Rogers, who is also a  Board Director of the Football League is away on holiday and has been uncontactable directly with regard to the matter.

Davies, Steve

The statement from Derby County Chairman Adam Pearson on the Official Derby County Website expressed that his Club were ‘staggered' by the decision to cancel the hearing especially at such short notice but as yet there has been no comment or statement from the Tranmere of Football League end of the proceedings.

The disappointment expressed by the staff at Derby will get little sympathy from those at Tranmere after the way the Club were reportedly treated by Steve Davies when he left for Pride Park back in June.

An Official Tranmere Club statement at the time of the move stated that Tranmere had not even been informed of Davies's move to Derby by the player himself or his agent and the news was filtered through to Prenton Park via the Media.

When a new date is set for the tribunal, we will bring it to you.

She may have done but at the same time it doesn't help Tranmere get any money either.

Funnily enough I was just readin a Derby Forum and they were asking the same thing?

They were wondering if the Club (Derby) was making such a fuss about the cancellation because it would stop him playing for them in the League but I can't see that being the case.

It says at the bottom of the article on their official site that 'it will not affect Steve Davies' player registration with the club'.

Derby will have to pay the fee whether they like it or not.

Would be funny if it was more than they could afford (which I don't think it will be).

Why would it be funny? They've taken a player quite legitimately, but it would be funny to see them be put in financial trouble by it?

It would be good from our point of view to get as much money as possible, and I think we need it quickly, which is why I think it's odd it's been postponed and their must be a legitimate reason, but I wouldn't want to see another club be put in trouble for it!

i think it would have to be like 10 million for them to be in major trouble though!

Cos of the way the system works now with tribunals I suppose there is a risk for Clubs that one day the scenario of ending up paying more than they can afford will happen but up to now it hasn't and like I said I don't think it will happen this time either.

Derby will have done their homework as to how much we would most likely be entitled to before they signed him and should comfortably be able to afford it.

If it does happen it would be something of a warning to other Clubs for the future I suppose.

There is no way at all that Derby will have financial difficulties over this either way in my opinion - they will be fine!

He never had a real chance to play for us for a long period due to injury and then being snatched away.

I think he will be a good player though yeah!

Before Coventrys takeover they owed money for Leon Best and Gary Borrowdale whicht hey could not afford. This wasn't a very high profile thing and soon came out when Ray Ranson talk over Coventry.
