Following on from Stephen McKeown's two-part Match Report, reporter Mark Ridgway gives his report on the 2-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest yesterday which effectively ended any fading hopes Rovers may have had of reaching the play-offs at the end of the season.

Rovers' play-off hopes are all but over after Nottingham Forest picked up a 2-0 victory at Prenton Park.  Rovers dominated the first half and had a goal dis-allowed only for Forest to score against the run of play.

They added a second in the second half but one good thing to note was the return from injury of Steve Davies.

There were two changes to the side that played at Walsall, with the suspended Ben Chorley replaced by Antony Kay whilst Chris Shuker returned to replace the injured Myrie-Williams.

It was a good opening to the game with chances at both end, Rovers pressurised by winning a corner and at the other end Sammy Clingan hit a free kick over and Brett Ormerod shot wide.

On thirteen minutes McLaren set up Moore but his shot was straight at the keeper Paul Smith.

On 20 minutes it looked to be 1-0 to Rovers, Chris Shuker's low cross was smashed in by Chris Greenacre, only for the linesman to raise his flag for offside.  Then Shuker and Taylor worked well to set up Paul McLaren who shot wide before McLaren set up Moore but his effort was saved again by Smith.

The tackles started flying in after Shane Sherriff looked to have been taken down but play was allowed to continue only for Steve Jennings to slide in and win the ball back.

Despite Rovers having the better of the opening 30 minutes the visitors took the lead.  A large hoof from the Forest defence let Nathan Tyson run on past Kay and round Coyne who had raced out of his area as Tyson tapped in the opener.

Paul McLaren then crossed for Ian Goodison to power a header at the side netting.

Straight after the re-start Shane Sherriff's deep cross was headed back goalwards by Shuker but Smith handled it easily.

On 52 minutes a lack of concentration cost Rovers, firstly a short corner was taken and when Cohen crossed, Wes Morgan rose above the Rovers defence to power a header in to make it 2-0 and effectively finish the contest.

So with 25 minutes Ronnie Moore gave Steve Davies his return from injury replacing Sherriff and Craig Curran replaced Shuker with Moore moving to right midfield.

Rovers still had chances Davies curling a deflected free kick over and Curran hooking a shot just over.  Rovers also had a number of corners which came to nothing and Forest were just counter attacking with pace straight after.

Nathan Tyson shot wide when clean through late on and Forest has other half chances but the score stayed at 0-2.
