All the News and Statistics ahead of the visit of Chesterfield to Prenton Park on Friday in Coca-Cola League One as Rovers look to bounce back from a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Leyton Orient partly due to having just one defender available.

Tranmere host Chesterfield on Friday at Prenton Park in Coca-Cola League One as Tranmere look to bounce back from last weeks 3-1 defeat at Leyton Orient.  A Rovers side with just one defender was no match for the in-form Orient side so a win this week is imperative if Tranmere want to try and hold on to sixth place.

 

Rovers managed an impressive 2-0 away win at Saltergate earlier this year which saw Gareth Taylor score his first goal in a competitive match for Tranmere.  This followed an earlier Downes own goal as Rovers deserved the three points they got.

 

Chesterfield have no fewer than three ex-Rovers players in their squad inthe shape of Wayne “The Chief” Allison, Paul Hall, and Reuben Hazell.  They are sure to get a good reception but on the day past ties wont matter as it is all about three points for both sides.

 

The Spireites currently occupy 19^th place in League One and are just two points above the relegation spots, there is no denying they are in the thick of it and any points they get away at Prenton Park would be a massive boost to them.

 

Chesterfield started the season brightly with 2 wins in 3 but their early hopes of promotion glory were soon crushed as they failed to win in 4 games. 4 wins in 7 watched them climb again but since that spell chesterfield have been unable to create any winning formula as they are yet to win 2 League oO games on the bounce all season.  Last week Chesterfield were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest.

 

Tranmere have a complete lack of consistency at home as the last 6 results show WDWDWD without 2 wins on the bounce!  A win would be greatly appreciated as Blackpool threaten to take over with their games in hand, slipping up against so called lower clubs is surely unacceptable for Ronnie Moore’s side but be sure Chesterfield wont be making it easy as they battle to stay up

 

It’s the first “Flag Game” at Prenton Park so be sure to get yourself a flag they cost as little as £1.00!  Get behind the lads (flag or no flag!) and enjoy the game!

 

 

Tranmere Rovers

 

Defenders Ian Goodison and Chris McCready both return from one game suspensions for Rovers but Jamaican Goodison is still a doubt with an ankle injury that plagued him prior to his suspension.

 

Steve Davies (hamstring) who missed the game away at Leyton Orient last week is again available for selection for Ronnie Moore but defenders Robbie Stockdale (calf) and John Thompson (knee) and goalkeeper John Achterberg are all out.

Chesterfield

Midfielder Derek Niven is suspended for the Spireites whilst club captain Mark Allott is rated as 50/50 to play due to an injury.

 

Defender Janos Kovacs has joined York a month’s loan this week so he will not be available for selection.
