This week has seen a very full fixture list with no more teams from League One left in either the League Cup or the F.A Cup.  There are, however two teams still left in domestic cup competitions with both Doncaster Rovers and Bristol City taking part in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Doncaster have already secured their place in the final in Cardiff but Bristol City only managed a goalless draw with their city neighbours Bristol Rovers this week but still remain favourites to progress despite having an away leg still awaiting them.

Back in League One itself, Saturday saw no disappointment in the entertainment available.  The two games which stood out as being crucial were Swansea vs. Scunthorpe and Tranmere’s visit to Huish Park to face Yeovil.

Neither game disappointed the neutral but both Swansea and Yeovil fans will be bitterly disappointed as they witnessed their teams miss out in three vital points in their push for promotion.

Both of the games ended as 2-0 defeats for the home teams and built up a cushion between sixth placed Rovers and seventh placed Swansea although Swansea have a game in hand on Tranmere.

The midweek games were a somewhat different story with only Leyton Orient’s 5-2 victory over Millwall at the New Den worth writing home about.  Rotherham look consigned to the drop after yet another defeat, this time failing to beat Huddersfield at home.  The game at Millmoor saw five goals and two red cards as Huddersfield won by one goal after playing the majority of the game with a one-man deficit.

Nottingham Forest have been quietly slipping out of the back door after occupying the top spot for the early part of the season.  Forest only managed to record a draw against Blackpool who are looking good for a play off spot in the week Calderwood’s side now only have nine-points between themselves and seventh spot.  If they maintain their current form until the end of the season then they will probably not be starting in the Championship next August.

Results have been somewhat a side-note in the League One manager’s diary this week, as many of them have had to come to terms with losing a number of players to injury.  At this late stage of the season injuries are often expected to come as fatigue sets in but with already limited options available many teams have had to field makeshift teams.

Oldham have received bad news as they fear that a training injury has resulted in a leg break for front-man Chris Hall whilst Carlisle’s Karl Hawley is awaiting a scan to investigate an ankle injury, which was picked up in their midweek game against Chersterfield.

Swansea have received the news of a double injury worry today. Darren Pratley has dislocated his shoulder and will have to be sidelined for up to a month whilst the news of Adebayo Akinfenwa’s leg break was received today and this injury is likely to spell the end of his season an potentially his Swansea career as he is out of contract at the end of this term.

Tranmere also have a depleted squad for their fixture against Leyton Orient at the weekend with only one fit defender available for the fixture.  Injuries have gone deep in to the Rovers’ defence even setting back reserve team defender Olly James who is yet to become a fixture in the Rovers side.

After seeing the end of the successful loan period for Leon Best at Yeovil, manager Russell Slade did not hang around before making a swoop for another Championship striker.  Darryl Knights is set to sign for the Somerset club and will partner Wayne Gray upfront.  Yeovil would be blessed if the eighteen-year-old could replicate the form of Leon Best as he joins a team in a favorable position in League One.

This weekend holds important games for every one in the League but Yeovil vs. Swansea will bear a lot of influence on other clubs in the top half of the league and is a game which Swansea must win if a serious promotion campaign is to be launched at this late stage in the season.
