All the pre-match team news and statistics ahead of Rover’s visit to the KC Stadium to face Hull City on Tuesday Night in the first round of the Carling Cup. Rovers will be hoping to lay to rest the ghosts of their last visit to the Stadium when they were beaten 6-1 in the League.

Carling Cup First Round at KC Stadium

 

 

Tranmere travel to the KC Stadium in Hull on Tuesday night in the first round of the Carling Cup as they look to bury the demons that still haunt those who were there almost two years ago when Rovers suffered their worst defeat for a number of years as the loss of both goalkeepers contributed to a 6-1 defeat.

 

This time around the sides are in different divisions with Hull having been promoted ahead of Tranmere at the end of that season in which they were thrashed at the KC.  Tranmere though have had a better start in League One than the Tigers have had in the Championship after the first four games.

 

Whilst Rovers have won two, drawn one and lost one notching seven points in the process, Hull have drawn one game and lost three which included two home defeats in five days.

 

While both sides may make alterations to their usual first team line-up, the game will surely be closer than last time.

 

In the last meeting between the two sides at Prenton Park, Rovers took a 7^th minute lead thanks to a Ryan Taylor free-kick but succumbed to three Tigers goals from now Rovers player Kevin Ellison and former Rovers player Jason Price with Craig Fagan adding the third.

 

The KC Stadium will be most familiar to Ellison and Robbie Stockdale from the Rovers squad as both players were at Hull last season prior to signing for Rovers.

 

 

Hull City

 

Hull veteran Nick Barmby could be in line for his first start of the season against Tranmere but the Tigers may well lose the services of David Livermore who requires an operation on a broken nose.

 

Tranmere Rovers

 

Tranmere have doubts over the fitness of striker Gareth Taylor (hamstring) and midfielder Paul McLaren (heel) for the trip to Hull.

 

If Taylor misses out, Calvin Zola is likely to start and if McLaren failes to play then Jason McAteer is likely to step into the fold as fellow midfielder Danny Harrison faces six weeks out with a foot injury.
