All the News and Statistics ahead of Rovers’ visit to Whaddon Road to face newly promoted Cheltenham Town in Coca-Cola League One this Tuesday night as Rovers look to get their away form off to a good start for the season.

Tranmere’s first away trip of the new season sees them travel to Whaddon Road to face newly promoted Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night.

 

After Saturday’s opening games, both of these sides find themselves with three points with Rovers of course having beaten Oldham 1-0 at Prenton Park thanks to a Chris Greenacre goal in the first half.

 

Somewhat more impressive though was Cheltenham’s 2-1 away at Swansea thanks to goals from Kayode Odejayi and Grant McCann that will give them a huge amount of confidence ahead of the visit of the Superwhite Army.

 

As the teams were in different divisions last season prior to Cheltenham’s play-off success against Grimsby in May, there were no meetings between the two teams last season.  The sides have only ever met twice before during Cheltenham’s only other spell at this level of English football in the 2002-03 season.

 

In that season, Rovers beat Cheltenham 1-0 at Prenton Park in the first match thanks to a Stuart Barlow goal on the hour before the return game at Whaddon Road was postponed very late before kick-off due to a frozen pitch.  When the game did take place, Rovers lost 3-1 with Ian Sharps scoring for the Whites.

 

For Rovers fans and staff, Cheltenham with perhaps be a bit more of an unknown quantity having been a lower division last season and with one great win already under their belts, the game will be far from easy for Rovers.

 

DEADLY SUB USELESS MATCH FACT – Tranmere have NEVER scored in the first half of a game against Cheltenham.

 

 

Cheltenham Town

 

Cheltenham are without defender Michael Townsend and striker Damian Spencer but despite injury scares, Kayode Odejayi and Shane Duff (illness) are expected to retain their places after the sides surprise win over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

 

Tranmere Rovers

 

Rovers have doubts over Kevin Ellison (ankle) and Chris McCready (hamstring) after both picked up knocks in the 1-0 home win over Oldham on Saturday. The rest of the squad are all available for selection at Cheltenham.
