Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park
By Deadly Submarine
When the fixtures for the new season were released in mid-June, it brought up this early re-union for new Rovers Manager Ronnie Moore against his former Club Oldham Athletic whom he had parted company with just a week before taking the hot-seat at Prenton Park.
Since his appointment as Rovers Manager, Moore has brought in nine new players in Gavin Ward, Shane Sherriff, Robbie Stockdale, Chris McCready, John Mullin, Paul McLaren, Kevin Ellison, Chris Shuker and Gareth Taylor as well as renewing the contracts of Jason McAteer and Ian Goodison from last season’s disappointing squad.
Following the departure of the man whose team they are set to face in this season opener, the Latics appointed long time player John Sheridan as their new Manager as they look to go better than last seasons 10th place finish in League One.
The two sides also had an early meeting at Prenton Park last season with Rovers running out 4-0 winners just six days into the new season thanks to goals from Chris Greenacre (2), Ian Sharps and Gareth Roberts.
In the return match at Boundary Park, Rovers were beaten 1-0 thanks to a Richie Wellens free-kick in the second half of the game.
