This outburst has to be in response to the amazing decision that Cole made when breaking clear from the Birmingham defence. Perhaps Coley's fifth booking of the season which he got against Fulham on Boxing Day means a ban for the game on Monday against West Ham may serve him a lesson from which he could learn from rather than wait to feel the wrath of Mourinho's actions.

Mourinho then said that Cole accepted his criticism and then Mourinho elaborated to the open-mouthed press by saying "I think there is no problem because it took a long time before he arrives at this position and I don't think he is ready to go back."

Steve Bruce, Birmingham's manager seemed thankful and relieved that the result wasn't as bad as the game panned out, despite losing Upson early to an ankle injury.

Bruce said, "You can't expect to come to Stamford Bridge and get something if you don't put away one of those two early chances, then we went and lost Matthew Upson with an ankle injury."

"He is a big player for us and we missed him. Once they scored, it was very difficult for us. But we have seven players at home unavailable for us. We need to get them back quickly, if we do then I'm sure we will stay in this division."

"I will try and see what I can do in the transfer window which opens tomorrow, but I don't know how much money I have. I need to bring in better players than I've got and a good striker will cost a lot of money. Ideally I'd like to bring in two or three players."
