Attendances last night in the Carling Cup matches were as predictable as the Labour Government lowering Income tax rates or increasing the duty on fuel.

The only games to survive the 50 Years Over 100 Years wrath were at Wycombe (5,365) whose fans were treated to an eight goal thriller. Yeovil (5,108) well they are just passionate. Watford considering they were playing the same team in their division (9,296), Sheff Wed (14,976) not bad considering they had lost their last two games at home (Leeds and Millwall), Scunthorpe (6,109), Norwich (16,766) and they were playing Northampton, Grimsby who supplied the shock of the round (so far) (8,206) Charlton got 10,328 (considering behind Sky's Tony Gales' head) there really seemed to be only a couple of hundred people. And that is about it.

Fans of those (at home) clubs, hang your heads in shame. Now the question is? When will the media (press and TV) jump on the 'low Carling Cup attendance' jump on the bandwagon. Certainly not today, will it be tomorrow or probably Friday? Or will the answer be probably not. Simply because it is the League Cup and attendances as I commented on last night have always been notoriously low, especially in the early rounds.

But wait and see when the clubs competing in European competition join the the 3rd Round and just wait and see what is written when the attendances are marked as low - Chelsea for one will be hit with the 'easy to batter' brigade. But Chelsea DO cut their prices for any Carling Cup home game, but they do say that it has to be in agreement with the opposing team. Make whatever you like of that as you will!

Now what of tonights Carling Cup games.

Well there are only three

Blackburn v Huddersfield

Doncaster v Man City

Fulham v Lincoln

The biggest crowd is relation to ground size should be at Doncaster's Belle Vue Ground. However we shall see what the figures are tomorrow.
