Today the Champions start their defence of the Premiership trophy (that sounds real good, there's nine months of this LOL ed) at new boys Wigan Athletic in front of a sell out 25,000 at the JJB Stadium.

The game kicks off at 4pm and is live on Sky Sports for those who are unable to attend the game.

Wigan's plans were thrown into confusion when WBA tabled a bid for Nathan Ellington which appears to have been accepted and it looks like Chelsea will be facing him against West Brom in ten days time, rather than today. New signing from Portsmouth and Wigan old boy Adrian De Zeuw looks set to start in defence and record signing Henri Camara looks set to start up front with Jason Roberts.

What of the Champions? Unbeaten in pre-season with impressive wins against AC Milan, Benfica and Arsenal, expect the starting line-up to be the same for the Community Shield.

Cech, Ferreira, Terry, Gallas, Del Horno, Makelele, Lampard, Gudjohnsen, Duff, Robben, Drogba.

At one stage during the Summer there was doubt as to whether this game would go-ahead, due to the row between Wigan's Chairman Dave Whelan and the local police force. Wigan felt that they were being charged unfairly for Police attendance at last season's home games compared to others in the region, but a settlement was made and the game can go ahead today.
