Tonight Chelsea play their sixteenth game under the tenureship of ‘The Portly One’ of which ONLY four games previously played at The Bridge have been in the league and in three of those, Chelsea have failed to score – drawing two 0-0 and losing the other 0-1. The fourth game of course was the mauling of Aston Villa, 8-0.

There are no fresh injury concerns. The only absentees are Romeu (out for the season), Moses and Mikel who are on African Cup of Nations duty.

‘Captain, Leader, Legend’ ‘One England Captain JT has trained well and is in the squad, but ‘The Portly One’ neither confirms or deny that JT will start.

He said, “He was training yesterday and Monday with the rest of team. He is fine, he has to play games to improve his match fitness but the sessions with the team will help."

Chelsea may have won convincingly at St Mary’s eleven days ago, but that does not automatically mean the scoreline will be repeated.

Although Chelsea are creating chances against teams ‘sitting’ back, it is astonishing that world class international players are missing them.

‘The Portly One’ said, “We are doing very well away, but at home the other teams wait deep and we have less space. We are still creating chances but we have to be more clinical. If we score goals and take our chances it will be completely different because the other team will be more open, but if that’s not the case, like it has been in the last two games, it becomes more difficult.”

Lucas Piazon has joined Malaga on loan until the end of the season and ‘The Portly One’ has not ruled out recalling Lukaku back from WBA.

He said,"We will see, you never say never because something may happen tomorrow and you have a problem, but at the moment the idea is for him to stay there and gain more experience,"

Southampton are without Jose Fonte and Adam Lallana who are injured.

Emmanuel Mayuka is on African Cup of Nations duty and there is a doubt about full-back Luke Shaw, who has a gashed knee.

Work commitments curtail my midweek Stamford Bridge outings, but with the way the club is being run, to be honest, it is not too much of a miss.
