West Ham 3-1 Chelsea: Eggs on Faces

The only stock rising after yesterday’s humiliating defeat at Upton Park is laughing stock and the eggs over the heads of Abramovich and the board are starting to crack. For their second-half performance, West Ham deserved the three points. Allardyce changed it at half-time after being given the run round in the first-half and The Portly One, for all his ‘tactical genius’ never reacted.

Granted, West Ham’s third was an early Christmas gift from Ashley Cole, but for me, Cechie boy should be held responsible for the start of West Ham’s comeback.

All afternoon Cech dominated his area, punching away and catching high balls, even getting himself booked for handling the ball outside the area in the process and then for some inexplicable reason he decided to stay on his line when a West Ham cross looped up off Cahill’s head.

The ball was travelling slow and high which would have given him to time to adjust, but he stayed rooted on his line.

Then after a soft Carlton Cole header, he watched the ball slowly sail past him into the net.

He obviously misjudged his positioning thinking the ball was going wide, but there was no attempt, no reaction to save and West Ham were level and for a man of his calibre, Cech’s decision-making was simply criminal.

Chelsea weren’t without their chances. Mata had a shot saved by Jussi, then a second attempt blocked. Mata hit the bar from a free-kick in the second-half and Jussi saved twice from Torres.

Chelsea took an early lead with a Mata goal manufactured from an Azpilicueta throw-in.

The ball found Torres out on the right, he then pulled the cross back from the by-line for Mata to rifle home for Chelsea’s first goal under The Portly One’s reign.

West Ham took the lead with 2nd half substitute Diame scoring with ease and Maiga took advantage of Cole’s generosity after Cech had parried Taylor’s initial shot, to wrap up the points with bows on them.

So after Abramovich’s knee-jerk reaction in sacking Di Matteo ten days ago, Chelsea have amassed a massive two points from a nine, scoring one goal in the process.
