John Obi Mikel is about to sign a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old has been a regular high appearance figure player since his tug-of-war transfer between Chelsea and Man Utd, and has matured enough to convince club suits that he is one to hold on to with just one year left on his current deal.
"He will sign the deal,” said agent John Shittu.
"Some of the club's officials were away but they were expected back last weekend.
"As soon as everybody is in, we will sign the new contract.
"It is a very good deal for him and would put him on a par with some of the club's top earners."

The new contract is reported to be around £70,000 a week.
Good news in my book – he now seems to have got his temper and tendency to lash out and retaliate under control and at times displays shades of Ruud Gullit in his play.
So Malouda has re-signed whilst Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, Joe Cole and Alex are expected to be next up to cement their careers further in SW6.
