Chelsea in Young bid rumour holds substance?

Reports are coming in that Chelsea are enquiring after Aston Villa´s Ashley Young. It is claimed by the media that Young is one of Guus Hiddinks recommended players to sign.

Whilst Young has just received the Young Player of the Year award from the PFA and does fit the profile of one group of players we need to sign (young and English), I have my doubts that this story could be true (which probably means he’ll be pictured in the press holding up a Chelsea shirt soon!).

Ashley Young with his trophy for Young Player of the Year 2009, at the PFA Player of th

For one thing O’Neil would be loathe to lose the player and presumably Randy Learner has enough cash to hold onto their most coveted players.  Secondly, with the presumably imminent arrival of Zhirkov, Malouda now in excellent form and even the possibility of a bid for Ribery this summer, at most we could be playing the percentages by enquiring for Young “just in case”.

Of course, if Malouda was to be sold and any bid for Ribery is unsuccessful, then the Young rumours take on a different complexion.

In any case, for Young to come to Stamford Bridge, the player himself would need to insist on leaving as he wants to play Champions League football for example.

Time will tell.

Not a hope in hell of this happening imo, for exactly the reasons you mention. And certainly not for the paltry £20 mill that's being bandied about. MON has said his value to Villa would be about £35 mill. I know that was partly TIC, but it indicates how highly he Rates Young.

35 mil?

Somewhat over optimistic!

Well you could probably do with being a bit more humble. It´s right that we enjoy our new strength in domestic and European football but there´s no need to get too arrogant about it.

Some of us were watching Chelsea in the 70´s and 80´s and won´t forget some of the less succesful periods in our history.

By the way, we´ve never been a "small club from the smoke" - 5th highest average attendance in all-time English league football history.

Welcome to the board though....

Thought you were supposed to be a football fan. You are obviously just jumping on the bandwagon after Chelsea got rich!!! You will probably be a Man City fan this time next year.

35 million wouldnt be enough, Gareth Barry was always going to leave the Villa since last season. With one year on his contract we will take the 12 million thankyou very much, he is the one who looks a fool not the club. Ashley Young is valued at 20 million, he has three years on his current contract which means we dont have to sell. You have loads of cash so pay up if you want him otherwise we wont sell simples, we had no choice but to sell Barry otherwise he would have walked away in twelve months time for nothing, Ash sadly for you is going anywhere!!!!

chelsea should quickly go for young, want are they still waiting for. i think the transfer is delaying. the new chelsea manager or whoever in charge of the signing should be very fast about the signing, we are tired of rumour hearing. go for him.

Well IF Malouda stays and we get Zhirkov that should be enough?

Who would have thought we would be talking about Malouda in this way.
