VAN DER VAART – Chelsea could be for me

Recent Real Madrid signing Rafael Van der Vaart has made comments that he would like to join Chelsea should irregular team selection at Real Madrid threaten his place in the Dutch national squad. This recent link has been made because of apparent interest from Guus Hiddink.

The likelihood of Hiddink staying on at Chelsea at least in the traditional sense seems almost impossible although there is talk of a “liaison” type arrangement where Hiddink fulfils his obligations with the Russian national side but communicates regularly with the new manager (e.g. Rijkaard) until he can return – presumably to form a partnership management team.

“It’s flattering when someone like Guus Hiddink is interested as he is one of the best. If my World Cup selection is threatened I must think about a transfer,” said Van der Vaart.

Any such signing would have to be on the condition of offloading a high-maintenance attacking midfielder like Ballack for example.

Lets hope so,11 goals in 22 for Real and he has dropped down the pecking order.11 million lets snap him up.

Van Der Vaart: I will join Blues this summer

Holland star Rafael Van der Vaart has claimed he will join Chelsea this summer.

The midfielder has been at Real Madrid for just eight months but has fallen out of favour with boss Juande Ramos.

With the World Cup taking place next year, the 26-year-old wants first-team football to secure his place in the Dutch squad.

Van Der Vaart says he will leave the Spanish champions in the summer and claims there has been interest from the Blues.

"Fortunately for me, Chelsea want me, so I have everything clear," he said.

"If Guus Hiddink remains at the helm of Chelsea, I hope that the signing will be closed soon. I want to leave Real Madrid."

Despite scoring 12 goals in 22 matches for Madrid, Van der Vaart has fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu since the arrival of Ramos.

The playmaker, who has 65 international caps, began his career with Ajax before moving to Hamburg where he spent thee years.

Van der Vaart is valued at around Ģ12 million and has previously been a target of Manchester United.

It looks pretty good as long has Hiddink stays.
