After the postponement of the reserve game against Aston Villa on Monday night, Chelsea arranged a friendly against near neighbours QPR which was played at Cobham on Wednesday afternoon.
Goals from Frank Nouble, Lee Sawyer and Nikki Ahamed saw the reserves comfortably win 3-0.
Reserve team coach Paul Clement was full of praise for QPR's quick co-operation. He said, "QPR were great, led by Gareth Ainsworth, coming down here at short notice." Frank Nouble gave the reserves the lead after he finished off a good run and cross from Lee Sawyer. Big Frank could have increased his goal tally but a combination of the woodwork and 'keeper's saves denied Frank. Nikki Ahamed scored the reserves second and Lee Sawyer rounded off the scoring. Ray Wilkins was in attendance and watched the whole game. Coach Clement said after, "I was pleased with that, it was important we got the game on with the match with Aston Villa off the other night, and having such a fragmented programme. That's something we will work hard on this year, to get regular reserve fixtures. If a game gets called off, can we get a friendly on? QPR came to Cobham with a strong team. Clement said, "They had a decent team and a couple of experienced players, Gary Borrowdale at left-back and Peter Ramage at right-back, who have both played a lot of games. It was a good test and we played very well, just the way we want to with some good football. "We approached the game with the right attitude, and kept the ball and kept going with some very pleasing performances and goals. "The third was the pick of the bunch, a nice ball, angled run and a lovely little lay off and we could have scored even more." Chelsea: Rhys Taylor (Nic Heimann), NIkki Ahamed, Jeffrey Bruma, Carl Magnay (c) (Jordan Tabor), Nana Ofori-Twumasi, Jacob Mellis (Segio Tejera), Jimmy Smith, Lee Sawyer (Daniel Philliskirk), Frank Nouble, Fabio Borini (Fabio Ferreira), Gael Kakuta The reserves next League game is at home to Tottingham on Monday 2nd February at Griffin Park. The game kicks-off at 7pm.
