Chelsea - Transfer Rumour Round-up (Part 2)

MANUEL DA COSTA

By dixon9
January 22 2009

A summary of the most recent transfer rumours involving exits of Drogba to City, Malouda to Villa Real, Ivanovic to Fiorentina, Nielsen to Celtic, and Cuducini to Spurs with the acquisitions of Robinho from City, Valencia from Wigan, Di Maria from Benfica, Da Costa from Fiorentina and Kleber from Santos. (Part 2).

In – Da Costa

A recent uncharacteristic leaky defence is supposed to have prompted Scolari to look at bringing in Portuguese international Manuel da Costa.

Da Costa's agent:

"Scolari knows Manuel Da Costa very well and he played him a couple of times with Portugal.

"I assume he rates him as a player, but if you ask me if Chelsea have made an offer for him, I won’t be able to answer you."

He impressed at PSV but his current club Fiorentina aren’t supposed to be too keen on him.

Maybe my memory is letting me down but I thought that Da Costa (along with Alcaedes) was ALREADY a Chelsea acquisition, parked at PSV in the same way that Alex was?

Kleber, Brazil

In - Kleber

The 28-year-old Brazilian left-back is being touted as a replacement back-up for Wayne Bridge but has also being looked at by City (City again! There seems to be a connection building up here!).

"The president [Marcelo Teixeira] said to me that it is going to be very difficult to stay at Santos." said Kleber.

"The officials wish to have an offer from Europe. That hasn't happened yet but it could happen up until the end of the window.

"I know for sure that I will not continue at Santos because they have sold me to an investment group - I am a little bit upset as I didn't know anything about that."

Who knows?  Depends on Ferreira being sold seeing as he may be the current back-up for Ashley Cole.

Out - Nielsen

18-year-old Nielsen is going to reject a new Chelsea as he favours a move to Celtic.

The press say that he has already looked round Celtic’s training complex and been on trial for a few days.

"He had a couple of days' trial last week and he quite liked the look of the place," said Celtic coach, Lennon.

"I think he is going to come up again and we will have another look at him. It's difficult to make a decision over two or three days.

"We liked what we saw but he will be up for a few more days before we make a decision."

I though he was one of our more promising youngsters – would be a shame to lose him.

Out – Cudicini

Not allowed to leave apparently according to press reports and Redknapp denies making an offer for him.

Hopefully a non-starter for January – but I won’t be surprised to see him go in the summer when his contract ends.

Robinho makes his way towards goal to score the second goal of the game.

In – Robinho

Did he really want to go to City in the first place?  Immediately after the move he sacked his agent but to be fair, he has impressed at Eastlands and has surprised many with his work-rate.

Still, he is already playing up.  Only days ago he went AWOL from City´s training camp base in Tenerife and hopped on a plane to Brazil where he wanted to celebrate his birthday.  I can´t imagine what Hughes must be thinking and the club will fine the player two weeks wages.

So why would we want such an unstable character at Chelsea?  Very good question, although It´s obvious that what he could bring to the side could be the difference for us this season.

I would say yes, let´s sign Robinho IF there is an opportunity - but only because I think Scolari would be able to man-manage him and hopefully prvevent any unauthorised excursions into the west end.

His signature probably wouldn´t happen in January though unless something dramatic happens in the next few days and even then, it could well end up with us also parting with the likes of Ivanovic and Drogba for example.

More cash in the coffers - Kenyon continues with his relentless mission towards break even.

Still, I´m sure we´ll splash out in the summer.
