COME ON CHELSEA

The Academy playing their first game in over four weeks breezed past Walsall in the 4th Round of the FA Youth Cup at Brentford's Griffin Park. Credit to those handful of die-hards that went along to support both teams, considering the first team were kicking off once the 2nd half was well underway.

Goals from Rohan Ince, Gael Kakuta, Frank Nouble and Fabio Borini who scored twice in the last ten minutes, his first an absolute cracker from twenty yards, put the Academy into the fifth round where they will play the winners of Bristol Rovers v Liverpool who play Thursday night.

Walsall's got back into the tie when Sam Adkins nipped in between Nikki Ahamed and 'keeper Niclas Heimann to slot the ball into an empty net to make the score 2-1.

It could have got a lot worse for the Academy as Walsall's Grigg was judged offside, with only Heimann to beat.

The Academy suffered an early injury to Ben Gordon who was replaced by Billy-Joe King and then King himself was injured and was replaced by Conor Clifford.

Naturally coach Dermot Drummy was delighted. He said, "This is the FA Youth Cup and there's a fair amount of expectancy from the boys.

"They played great tonight, but we need to do a bit more work off the ball.

"But the boys have had three or four weeks without competitive action and to come out with a 5-1 win tonight is fantastic.

"Now we'll watch tomorrow night's game between Bristol Rovers and Liverpool so we can get an idea of what to expect in the next round."

Chelsea: Niclas Heimann, Nikki Ahamed, Rohan Ince, Jeffrey Bruma, Ben Gordon (Billy-Joe King 44, Conor Clifford 68), Daniel Philliskirk (c), Gael Kakuta, Jacob Mellis (Josh McEachran 82), Jacopo Sala, Fabio Borini, Frank Nouble.

"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.

Considering the first team were on the telly last night, the attendance at Griffin Park was 217.
