After the postpondment of last week's home game against Tottingham due to a frozen pitch (and there was me basking in the Florida sunshine), the reserves kick-off 2009 with a home game against neighbours Fulham at Brentford's Griffin Park.
With the Academy in action on Wednesday night in the FA Youth Cup against Walsall (the same night as the first team's FA Cup replay), coach Paul Clement has picked a more unfamiliar and experienced team to face 'The Cottagers.' In come Michael Mancienne (after his loan spell at Wolves), Jimmy Smith (who had been on loan at Sheff Wed), Franco Di Santo (who had a 'waste of time' subs appearance at Old Trafford on Sunday). Also included in tonight's line-up are Lee Sawyer and Miroslav Stoch. There will be LIVE updates on this thread from 7pm tonight. Chelsea team: Rhys Taylor, Nana Ofori-Twumasi, Michael Mancienne, Carl Magnay (c), Patrick van Aanholt, Tom Taiwo, Lee Sawyer, Jimmy Smith, Miroslav Stoch, Franco Di Santo, Sergio Tejera. Subs: Jan Sebek, Jack Saville, Jordan Tabor, Ricardo Fernandes, Fabio Ferreira

We should have had a real go at them when we got a goal back but we sat back too deep.Even our reserves are having trouble with set pieces.The keeper was different class,the save when he tipped the ball on to the bar and it rebound and hit him on the head was something else.
