Man City in move for Wayne Bridge

The Daily Mail is reporting that Wayne Bridge is “on the verge” of a £12m move to new rich kids on the block Manchester City in what could be the first of various moves for Mark Hughes side during this January transfer window. True or the usual rollocks? Well, we will find out soon enough.
The Daily Mail also report that Bridge “has taken some persuading to leave Chelsea” but that the lure of the ambitious project at City and regular first team football with the subsequent greater possibility of being considered for the England squad has clinched it.
28-year-old Bridge has 87 appearances for Chelsea and is supposed to be one of the most popular members of the squad.
A deal makes sense for both Bridge and Hughes, who has been looking for a left-back since his arrival at Eastlands, but does it make sense for Chelsea?
From a practical point of view, who would deputise for Ashley Cole if Bridge were to leave? Youth product Ryan Bertrand has just had his loan extended at Norwich so that would leave Paulo Ferreira who despite being a right-back at Chelsea, was selected as left-back by Scolari for Portugal.
The £12m transfer figure would represent an excellent return on a player that we paid £7m for in the summer of 2003 (even more when you consider Kenyon’s method of accounting player value by stepping down the original transfer fee over the length of original contract).
But what about future considerations with regard to the UEFA 6+4 rule? Some of the more powerful clubs in Europe still want to resist this recent initiative but Kenyon has already gone on record as accepting it and gearing up for it on player recruitment and in our efforts to eventually have our youth ready for first team football. Selling an English player like Bridge would depend on sufficient contingency already in place (or buy another English player during the current of a future transfer window).
My own view over the sale of Bridge is that I’d prefer to exhaust other options first; Alex is also supposed to be a City target and we are saturated with Centre-half talent at Chelsea. The slack of selling Alex could be taken up by Ivanovic but also give more future opportunity for Mancienne (or Magnay or Burma or Alcaedes…). We’d get a similar price for Alex (maybe even a little more if it was City buying). We’d also alleviate the stress of the UEFA 6+4 rule.
What is certain in my opinion is that if we sell anyone it must mean we are in the market for an incoming player – but no doubt we wouldn´t sell without having first wrapped up a deal for a new player.

When selling clubs were ripping us off a few seasons ago WE WERE BLAMED for distorting the transfer market - NOT THE SELLING CLUBS! Oh no! The selling clubs were pure as the driven snow and victims of the devils spawn that is Chelsea, destroying the corinthian spirit (Vomit! Just look at history to see that was not true!).
NOW that we are the possible selling club looking to make money out of a club the way clubs made money out of us WE ARE OUT OF ORDER!

thank you,,,people like him seem to forget this has been done before and they were the main culprits during the saga when chelsea paid over the odds for a few

We are loaning a lot out Claret but they are all kids that have come up through the academy/reserves that need proper competitive experience.
In Spain for example, the reserve sides actually compete in the same league as the first teams (but not in the same division obviously) so Real Madrid youngsters for example, all get league experience against older players. The problem with England is that this possibility doesn´t exist - clubs reserves/academy have to play against each other in their own "kids" leagues. Mourinho and Benitez both came out and said this was a major problem with youth development in English football.
Clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea try to get round this a bit by playing their academy (youth) players in with their older players in the reserves or loaning them out to league clubs (eg. Bridcutt at Watford, Mancienne at Wolves, Bertrand at Norwich). The loaning out stage is seen as the final "stage" before breaking into the first team.

Even with the modern emphasis on academys with top notch facilities Chelsea reckon that once the first youth product makes the first team, a target of ONE per season is realistic.
I suppose the older a player is, the more certain we can be about his ability.
Obviously the idea is to spot them young and pay 1,2,3,4,5m for a player that would eventually save you 15-20m in the transfer market.

but you see my point,,you bring a loan in instead of giving your lads a chance,,i see 66 reckons he will be happy is reserves,,but for how long, i want to see bruno in first team as he seems to be scoring plenty and should be given a chance i think,,
Big Frank is too young Claret. Chelsea managers dont like playing kids and I reckon Scolari will play his strongest available team against Southend on Saturday.

But who would Sa displace of our lot of that age? Our other forwards are younger in general.
We only have Di Santo (currently injured) who has already made a couple of appearances and Sahar who will either be given a chance or released this month.

Players like Owen and Rooney that make a name for themselves at 17 years of age are once in a blue moon occurances (How many more can you name like them and over how many years - and I wouldn´t put Walcott in their bracket yet).
As I said, in general, in the PL players are probably around 21,22,23 before they are regulars.

He is a powerful boy and has an eye for goals - he has certainly scored some special ones
But as I said before Chelsea managers don't like trying the kids.
Scolari said in an interview I watched yesterday that he wants to try and win all trophies on offer. He also said that he was bitterly disappointed that Chelsea got knocked out of the CC, he wanted to win that too!!!
Gael Kakuta is another promising prospect and he is working hard to get back to the form he showed before he got injured.
Don't forget Fabio Borini who is another youngster that can score goals for fun.
