The Academy travelled to Palace on Saturday morning and by half-time they found themselves 2-0 down. Dermot Drummy, the U16s coach was in charge as Paul Clement has taken over the reserves (for the time being).Drummy said, “We played some good football and our goal was a very well worked move, but we made a few too many defensive errors.

“Josh MacEachran performed well for an Under 16, Jacopo Sala had a very good second half and Nikki Ahamed played very well.”

Chelsea’s goal came from Swedish Under 17 international, Marko Mitrovic in the second half, but Palace broke away and scored their third.

The Academy are at home to West Ham on Friday 12th December which will be their last game before Christmas.

Chelsea: Jan Sebek, Nikki Ahamed, Billy-Joe King, Jack Saville, Ben Gordon, Josh MacLauchlan (Jordan Tabor), Conor Clifford, Daniel Philliskirk ©, Marko Mitrovic, Frank Nouble (Aliu Djalo), Jacopo Sala.

"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.

yes quite a few changes from the Man U cup tie, but it is good experience for the non-regulars to get experience, plus with the likes of Kakuta and Borini they are more reserve team players than youth.

The draw for the fourth round is on Friday
