Come On Chels - Up The Ante!!!

COME ON CHELSEA

By Since66
October 25 2008

The reserves set the tone for Sunday's battle at The Bridge against the 'Scousers' from the Red side of Stanley Park. In a behind closed-doors friendly at Cobham this morning, the reserves avenged the 2-0 defeat suffered two weeks ago by beating Liverpool 4-0.

Miroslav Stoch and Jacob Mellis scored two goals each and the reserves won the game in a storming first-half when they led 3-0 at half-time.

Sunday's game is the first 'real' top of the table clash of the season. With Hull in third place, Chelsea have two top of the table clashes in a matter of days ... who would have thought?

A Chelsea win will see them go EIGHT points clear of the Champions after birthday boy Rooney's return to Goodison Park ended in a 1-1 draw.

What Chelsea need tomorrow is the same support by the fans during that amazing night in the Champions League semi-final at The Bridge last April.

We don't want to see or need the apathy shown on Wednesday night at Roma.

Two topics that were at the forefront of Scolari's mind were becoming 'invincibles,' and the possibility of extending the home league record to an unbeaten 87 matches - Wouldn't it be ironic if Liverpool stopped the run, after we had taken the record from them - perish the thought!

Scolari said about becoming invincible, "It is not a special target but I think it is possible. I know what I need to expect some time. We are not invincible but you need to fight not to lose.

"This is what I want from my players and they give this to me every game. They don't accept defeat and this is why I think it could be a very good game on Sunday - because Liverpool don't accept and Chelsea don't accept."

About the record which has lasted since 2004, Scolari refutes the idea that the record is becoming a burden on the players.

He said, "I don't hear the players mention this situation. I don't hear them say let's not lose because we need to add one more game towards the record. It is normal we think to win but one time maybe we lose the game but not thinking about the record, thinking about the competition and points."

To end Scolari complimented the home fans by saying, "Chelsea fans help the Chelsea team. I have been here three-and-a-half months and I never heard any situation where the Chelsea fans say something bad about out players. They try to help my team and I want to say thank you many times for this because sometimes we don't play very well and they try to push us to play better. There are no bad words. I like this style in England."

Personally I think the fans should up the ante tomorrow and to get you in the mood, take a look at the vids below.

If these memories don't inspire you, then don't bother going tomorrow!!!

(Some top matches up there Since66!)

21st match against each other in just over 4 years!

Both sides suffering from injuries - ourselves more than them (but with our squad we won’t get any sympathy obviously).

We will be missing Drogba, Essien, Ballack, Joe Cole, and Ashley Cole (1 day training - shouldn’t be ready)...

Liverpool; Torres and Skrytel (sp!) bit Agger is back….but looking rusty.

Great that we have Carvalho back although with Torres missing not as urgent as it could have been. Drogba will be missed as Anelka is too timid - with Agger not quite match sharp that would have been handy.

Both sides looking better this season - like the look of that Riera bloke.

An interesting stat to bear in mind though, is that Liverpool have had 4 players sent off against them so far out of their last five PL games.. In 3 of those games they were trailing, the sending off proved to be the turning point and they went on the get a late winner in all. The one game they weren’t trailing was Man U...
In the other two games, where they played against 11 it was a draw.

I’m expecting Rafa to flood the midfield and keep the game tight as possible with either 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 to counter our wing backs as much as possible. Unless we score first I don’t see the game opening up at all - if they score first the general pattern of the game will probably stay the same and they may be even happier to sit back and defend in numbers.

Hope I’m wrong though....would be good to see Liverpool open up and have a go - would be a great game then.

This home record is getting to be a pain - every home game it gets mentioned and every game the media talk about it being broken. Would be nice to get to a 100 but it’s already been more than 4.5 years. My only hope is that someone like Hull or West Brom takes it.

Oh...and we can forget about all this title credentials bollocks - still far too early in the season for people to start shooting their bolt so quick.
