With only 2 days left before the transfer window slams shut until the sun comes out again, no doubt Peter Kenyon will be sat in his swivel chair whilst pensively twirling a silver pen between his fingers, thinking “Should I or Shouldn’t I authorise the bank draft for this Ben bloke?”.

I could imagine Mourinho, stood behind him, interrupting the thoughts of the Mancunian executive with “Come on Peter! I’ve only got Carvalho as a senior central defender! Boulahrouz is still injured and we don’t know how Terry’s going to hold up when we bring him back on Saturday! And all the kids are out on loan so don’t give me any “Look at Arsenal in the cups speeches!"  This is the league we´re talking about!  You can´t win the league with kids! (ok - forget that last one Peter!) This is our last chance!”.

 

The situation is that the Chelsea suits, whilst having the money to buy, have wanted to send out a message to the football market during this month with regard to how much we are prepared to be ripped off (hold on a minute, I´ll refrase that!) ...just how much we are prepared to pay JUST because we are Chelsea! (When you think about it, it does make a mockery of those that say it’s US and not the selling clubs that have been “ruining the transfer market”).

 

We have reportedly offered 2M for Ben Tal Haim, whose contract expires this summer – Big Sam wanted 3M and we apparently didn’t budge.  Now of course, Big Sam has announced that with only a couple of days left of the transfer window, the original required sum would have to be increased, given that he has minimum time to sign a replacement (I wouldn’t like to play poker against the bloke!).  Still, Kenyon knows that Bolton didn’t play their star defender yesterday – so maybe Kenyon has an idea of what cards Big Sam has in his hand?

 

There’s no doubt WE DO NEED ANOTHER CENTRAL DEFENDER if we are to continue with a solid campaign in all four competitions.  There’s also no doubt, that Kenyon needs to re-establish other clubs views on Chelsea in the transfer market and, of course, there is the subject of the next board meeting with those furrowed brows from Abramovich and Buck when they see the amount on the cheque.

 

I’d imagine we’d need to bid something like 3.75M to get the Bolton central defender.  I wonder who’ll blink first?  

 

In the meantime, José will be sat, arms folded, glaring impatiently at Kenyon.
