Pre-Season. Is It A Worry?

BACK2BACK

Wayne Bridge and Arjen Robben became the latest World Cup players to return to training today, after Petr Cech returned on Saturday. John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole return to Cobham on Wednesday.

On Saturday there was a 4-4-2 versus 4-4-3 and if my information is right Salomon Kalou scored a hat-trick for the 4-3-3's and young James Simmonds scored twice for the 4-4-2's in a full length game that ended in a 4-4 draw.

I know Chelsea had an awful lot of players in Germany for World Cup 2006 and I know that these players need their rest and holidays, but it does worry me that Chelsea's first pre-season match in earnest doesn't take place until Saturday 5th August and it is in Chicago against a MLS All-Star and then on Monday 7th August there is an Open Day at the Bridge, in conjunction with the new kit sponsors Adidas and then on Tuesday 8th Chelsea are in Holland to play Feyenoord and then the next day, Wednesday 9th August, Chelsea take on Celtic at The Bridge.

A punishing schedule that starts on Wednesday 2nd August and all the matches are live on Chelsea TV.

With the Commuity Shield against Liverpool on Sunday 13th August, Chelsea would have played ONLY four games before the season kicks-off against Manchester City on Sunday 20th August.

Match that with the likes of Chelsea's nearest rivals - Man Utd (they have played three), Liverpool have played a couple, Arsenal in their bits and bobs have played two or three (depending on which way you look at it) and we haven't played any yet!!

What do you think? Post your views on the message board or not and let this site remain the worst on the network as one whippersnapper has pointed out tonight!! LOL

COME ON CHELSEA
