Owls defender Graham Coughlan should be Wednesday captain according to a recent poll on Wednesday Wonderland.
34 per cent of WW readers think the ex-Plymouth man has the influence and determination to lead the Owls out instead of current captain Glenn Whelen, who took 22 per cent of the votes.
Whelen has been 'stand-in' captain ever since Lee Bullen was ruled out with injury in pre-season, and has kept on to it ever since. Whelen also captains the Republic of Ireland Under-21's.
He's already said that it's sometimes difficult to voice his concerns at some of the more senior members of the squad, but it's a job he takes pride in and must do.
Previous captin Lee Bullen took more votes than Whelen and gained 24 per cent of the votes, despite not looking to be a first team regular this season. One of the main reason's Sturrock kept the ex-Dunfermline man on is because of his influence in the dressing room. Sturrock looks set to use Bullen as a bit part player though this season, so the captaincy must surely go to someone else.
Coughlan's commanding performances this season have not only led to praise from Owls fans but have also led to requests for him taking over the captaincy from Whelen, who hasn't looked at his best so far this season, not forgetting his is still only 21 years old.
Sturrock has not hinted that he will change the captaincy, but may opt to do so once he has his ideal team that he wants to filed week in week out, which may lead to him resting Whelen on occassions.
