Wednesday remain bottom of the Championship this morning after a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace. A tap in from Clinton Morrison and a Glenn Whelen OG was enough for the Eagles who recorded their sixth win in seven home games, and continued the Owls poor form at Selhurst Park where they have not won in 23 years.

Paul Sturrock woke with the Championship still firmly on his shoulders this morning after the Owls 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

A 16th minute Clinton Morrison strike and an unfortunate Glenn Whelen OG was enough for the hosts, who make it six wins in seven home games this season.

Wednesday's poor form against Palace at Selhurst Park also continued - the Owls have not won there in 23 years of trying.

Paul Sturrock stuck with the starting eleven that earned a 2-2 draw at Luton Town on Friday night, despite Graham Coughlan's return from injury.

The Owls got off to a good start as an early David Graham attempt was blocked by Kiraly, and Chris Eagles follow up was sent wide. Kiraly nearly gifted the Owls with a goal a couple of minutes later when he fumbled a Chris Brunt free-kick, only for Chris Eagles' follow-up to fall straight in to the path of the Palace keeper.

Palace boss Iain Dowie was questioned over his side's 4-5-1 approach against PNE at the weekend, and so Dowie changed the formation to 4-4-2 with Dougie Freedman partnering Clinton Morrison up front.

It was Irish-international Morrison who made the breakthrough on 16 mins, as debutant Marco Reich provided the cross for Dougie Freedman to head accross goal, for an opportunity Morrison simply couldn't miss.

Despite an even amount of possession between the two sides, Palace looked more dangerous on the attack. Attempts from McAnuff, Morrison, and Watson were all well saved from David Lucas.

Wednesday did have their chances at the other end, but as has been the case all season, the chances haven't been taken. David Graham had a vicious shot hit the side netting shortly after the goal, and Lee Peacock's saved header fell in to the path of Eagles whose shot was deflected over. Eagles also saw a long-range free-kick well saved.

The game was wide-open and chances were arriving at both ends of the pitch. Morrison nearly got his second of the night, only for Frankie Simek's last ditch tackle keeping the score at 1-0.

Palace made it two shortly after though, as Jobi McAnuff's cross was headed on by Emmerson Boyce, and Glenn Whelen headed in to his own goal.

Wednesday remain bottom, and desperately need a win against Coventry at home on Saturday if they are to stay in the Championship. The Owls showed enough tonight, but must turn their chances in to goals as soon as possible.

Wednesday: Lucas, Simek (Bullen 62), Lee, Wood, Hills, Eagles, Whelan, O'Brien, Brunt (Partridge 70), Graham (Corr 83), Peacock.

Crystal Palace: Kiraly, Boyce, Ward, Fitz Hall, Butterfield, McAnuff, Watson (Hughes 81), Soares, Freedman (Andrews 87), Morrison, Reich (Borrowdale 90).

Paul Sturrock said:

"We've been doing it too long, it's 10 games in now.

"We look good going forward but when we get to the opposition box and lose the ball it goes straight up the other end.

"I've got a team of young players who get excited when we've got the ball around their box but they haven't learnt the other side of the game."
