In this section of Wednesday Wonderland we take a look at how Wednesday are hitting the news: either in newspapers, or on other media websites. These articles are totally independant from Wednesday Wonderland and are not the views expressed by our site.
from the Yorkshire Post:
SHEFFIELD Wednesday have sacked striker Adam Proudlock following a series of bust-ups over club discipline.
Manager Paul Sturrock's patience was pushed beyond the limit on Sunday morning when Proudlock failed to join the rest of the Owls squad for training in the wake of an absymal home defeat by Millwall.
The former Wolves striker, 24, had already been walking on thin ice as a result of his off-the-field conduct but Sturrock now feels that enough is enough.
Proudlock was served two weeks' notice yesterday and was also told to stay away from the club's training ground. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season.
Sturrock said: "It is a disappointing time for everyone involved but a stand had to be made. We have rules and regulations at this club and he has breached a couple of them. The decision was taken over the weekend,'' he added. "It is a sad day because Adam has qualities and I am sure he is going to come back and bite me in the bum – but we have another 25 players at this football club who are under these disciplinary codes and it is important for them, too.
"Discipline is vitally important for any football club and I have proved that today,'' he added. "I don't like doing it but I am hoping that it will benefit the club.''
Sturrock refused to elaborate further and Proudlock, who was unavailable for comment, is understood to be seeking advice from the the players' union, the Professional Footballers Association.
PFA executive Simon Barker said: "As long as the club have done everything properly and have followed the correct procedures there is no reason for us to get involved other than to offer the player help and advice."
Proudlock cost £150,000 from Wolves in 2003 but he was transfer-listed by former manager Chris Turner and his current transfer value would have been minimal having missed most of last season with a broken leg.
from BBC Sport:
Sheffield Wednesday striker Adam Proudlock has been informed that his contract is being terminated, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.
The club say the decision has been taken due to disciplinary reasons.
The former Clyde, Nottingham Forest and Tranmere forward joined the Owls for an undisclosed fee from Wolves in September 2003.
Proudlock, 24, missed more than half of the 2004-05 season after breaking his leg during training in November.
from Sky Sports Online:
Sheffield Wednesday have terminated the contract of striker Adam Proudlock for disciplinary reasons.
The 24-year-old joined The Owls from Wolves in September 2003 for a fee of £150,000.
He endured a frustrating time at Hillsborough, especially last season when a broken leg in November saw him miss the majority of the campaign.
He managed two goals this term, both in a substitute appearance during the 4-2 Carling Cup win at Stockport, but found it hard to claim a starting berth.
He was again used from the bench in Wednesday's 2-1 home defeat to Millwall last weekend, but that has proved his final appearance for the club.
The Yorkshire outfit have not elaborated on the reason for the player's sacking, beyond the fact it was down to a breach of the club's disciplinary code.
"Sheffield Wednesday have served notice to terminate the contract of Adam Proudlock for disciplinary reasons," a club statement read.
"No further comment will be made."
