Paul Sturrock is set to bring one of his original targets to Wednesday in the form of Rangers right-back, and former Scottish international, Maurice Ross on a short-term contract. Sturrock is also looking to bring in a striker on loan when the loan window re-opens next week.

The signing has caused much confusion to Owls fans, as the story was first announced on Sky Sports News - but no confirmation had come from the club itself.
This morning though, the official site confirms that Wednesday, Rangers, and Maurice Ross have come to an agreement which will see the ex Scotland international sign for Wednesday on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The club are still waiting for the football league to confirm the signing was done before the transfer window ended last night.
Maurice started his career at Rangers as a hot young prospect, and broke in to the Scotland squad at the same time. More recently though, he's struggled to secure a first team place with the current SPL champions, a spot which is currently occupied by Fernando Ricksen.
The signing has come as a surprise to Owls fans, who thought the defensive side of the team had been sorted out, with new-boy Frank Simek putting in solid displays as right-back. Sturrock has informed the official SWFC site that Maurice was one of his original targets, hence the signing. He told swfc.co.uk, ''There will be people out there finding it very strange that I'm signing a defender again but, as I've said all along, there are players I've targeted to bring to the football club when they do become available. Maurice Ross is one of them.''

Following the transfer deadline, Sturrock has also said the search to bring a striker to the club is on-going, and he would like to bring in a player on loan next week. Although the transfer deadline has passed, a window opens up next Wednesday which enables clubs to bring in players on loan.
Sturrock explained to swfc.co.uk; ''It's been a very hectic two days. At the same time as the Maurice Ross deal, I've been working very hard to try and bring a striker to the club on a loan basis. But everybody is chasing the same pot of gold.''
Sturrock said that he is confident of bringing in a striker on loan within the next ten days - hopefully in time for our clash with Leicester City a week on Saturday.
