The Longside would like to offer its congratulations to young striker Kyle Lafferty on his call up to the full Nothern Irish squad for their tour of America. Here is the press release from Burnley FC that broke the news today.
Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty is celebrating after receiving a debut call-up to the full Northern Ireland squad for the forthcoming mini-tour of America.
Lafferty, who hopes to feature for the U21 side in tonight’s European Qualifying match against Liechtenstein at Windsor Park in Belfast, was then expecting to link up with the U19 side in Belgium.
Lafferty will therefore end a whirlwind first year as a professional by linking up with Clarets team mates Michael Duff and Steve Jones for Ireland’s two games in the USA, against Uruguay in the Giant Stadium, New Jersey on Sunday, May 21 and Romania five days later at Soldier Field, Chicago.
Burnley manager Steve Cotterill said: “We are obviously delighted for Kyle and we all hope that he doesn’t go all the way to America and not return with a full international cap.”
