He joined the Clarets in June 2004 following the release of Stan Ternent and in his time as manager brought in players like Frank Sinclair, Micah Hyde, Michael Duff and Ade Akinbiyi. There have also been a few departures in his time here so far with Robbie Blake, Richard Chaplow and Ade Akinbiyi leaving the club in £1 Million+ deals.

The deal will be a boost to fans who were worried that Steve was dissillusioned, but Cotterill has always maintained that he had a good relationship with the chairman and had no intention to leave.

Leicester tried to poach Cotterill earlier on this year, and while he was flattered, the chairman told the Midlands club to keep their hands off. This should put an end to any rumour that the Crispbowl would be Steve's destination in the Summer.

Chairman Barry Kilby said on the deal:

"We're pleased to have agreed a new contract with Steve after negotiations."

"I see Steve as the future for this club and I'm sure he will bring us success and now we can look forward to some stability."

Steve Cotterill added:

"It was a lot easier for me to sign this contract now, even in the tough times we've had, because I know Barry even better and I know the people at the club and a big bearing is the supporters,"

"I'm ambitious and the club has to be for me to be here and I just think we've got to look forward to seeing what we can do in the summer."
