Turfmanphil reviews some of the Match Reports in the Sunday Papers following the home game against Crewe and a thumping 3-0 win with a brace from Spicer and a belter from Dyer!

What the Sunday Papers Say!

So then who was man of the match, Spicer or Dyer? Ill let you know what the Sunday Mirror and News of the World think and we also have this week,a new guest paper to review none other than the Sunday Sport !

Oh yeah, now that is some paper! I have never bought one before and buying it made me feel like a 14 year old again asking for Durex in the Chemist's shop! I think I waded through about 30 pages of exposed mammaries before I got to the actual sport section, pausing briefly on Page 22 to ogle at a particularly stunning blonde!

Anyway enough of that lets get back to the Footy!

Man of Match?

Well there is certainly a difference of opinion in the papers. I think most Clarets fans would probably say Spicer after his consistency and a brace of goals !I have to say however after watching Dyer with the skill, excitement and passion he showed, he would in my opinion just edge it and that goal was sheer perfection! So anyway here are the player ratings from Sunday Mirror and News of the World, Sunday Sport dont actually provide ratings and if they did they would be 40-25-38 ! Well the Sunday Sport do have a sort of Man of the Match award which they call 'Dog's Bollocks' and that award went to Dyer who quote 'stole the show'. By the way if you are interested they also gave Kenny Lunt of Crewe the 'Utter Bollocks' award!

Sunday Sport: Dyer Spices 'em Up!-'John Spicer grabbed a double for Burnley, but it was 17-old winger Nathan Dyer who stole the show. Spicer followed up his winner against Leicester last weekend when he lashed in from the edge of the area on 28 mins. He then combined with Akinbiyi to slot home on 68 minutes. And four minutes later,Dyer raced into the box to kill off pathetic Crewe'

Actually that was the whole of the article on the match from the Sunday Sport! I think they will have to stick to tits!

The Positives

News of the World: 'Burnley were in dominant mood right from the opening whistle' 'Verdict-Burnley took this game by the scruff of the neck.Crewe were too meek'

The Sunday Mirror: 'Even the loss of rock-like McGreal after a clash of heads on the half hour couldnt put Burnley off their stride'

The Negatives

News of the World: None that I can see!

The Sunday Mirror: None here either other than suggesting Dyer is far from the finished article!

Other Interesting Stuff

News of the World: 'Nathan Dyer stole the show-but Cotterill hopes nobody noticed....Cotterill joked '' If Harry Redknapp is reading this, then Dyer was very poor. We probably wont play him next week and it will probably also do him some good to stay here longer' ....SC added.....'Dyer scored a good goal-we scored 3 very good goals in fact and Spicer was excellent for us. We have had a decent month and now we can go into a tough couple of games with confidence'

'Dario Gradi said 'We had a problem holding Dyer'-YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN!!!

Saints Predictions

The best we can hope for is a draw with two of the papers saying we are up for a point and the News of the World only saying we will lose!

Interesting that yet again the News of the World give lower ratings in most cases with some being totally at odds with the game I saw! Sinclair & McGreal only 4? No way,Hose! However they do give Dyer a 9, the highest score anywhere! The Sunday Sport is fun, if I buy this one again it will of course be only to review the Footy in a professional capacity. Phwor you should have seen page 19 though! Oops sorry! Dyer seems to get all the headlines and plaudits in the papers with Spicer a close second. No mention of the injury status to McGreal and Dyer, lets hope they are both OK! Quite good reviews all round really and no obvious negative comments or mistakes. Bit disappointed as usual that the pundits dont have the courage to believe we can beat Saints although most think a draw and that would be a good point I suppose.
