Burnley have captured a third close season signing. Steve Cotterill has been a busy man over the last few weeks after signing Wade Elliott and Garreth O'Connor he has now made his third Bosman signing since the end of the season.

Wayne Thomas has agreed a three year deal with the club. The defender ,who play right back or at centre half, turned 26 a fortnight ago and his highly regard amongst Stoke fans.

Ipswich Town and Norwich City were both after the talented defender with Derby also missing out on the player. The Rams Director of Football had this to say:

"I was contacted by Wayne Thomas' agent yesterday, who advised me that the player had chosen to move to Burnley,"

"We are very disappointed because he's a quality player and would have been a good acquisition for the club.

"This means that we will now turn our sights elsewhere and we will pursue other options."

Steve Cotterill said:

“I’m delighted to capture a player of the stature of Wayne Thomas.

“I think, quite arguably, he is one of the best Bosman signings available this summer.

“He is a player I have liked for a long time now and I’ve had the pleasure of working with him before so I am well aware of what he brings to the team.

“He has good pace, he’s strong, has good aerial ability and a good temperament. He’s proved what a good player he is at this level for a number of seasons.

“In my opinion, he could go on to play in the Premiership if he continues to work hard at his game.

“We’ve put in some hard work over the last few weeks in trying to sign Wayne which has been worthwhile and I welcome him warmly to Burnley.”
