As part of a new section we are developing here at The Longside, we have asked contributor Bhurdwaz Mungur to keep us up to date with the football team he is involved in over in Mauritius and football in his wider region.

The aim is simple - to improve the community spirit we are trying to build on the website and also to get to know more about football outside of the U.K.

The Cosafa Castle Cup

Preliminary Qualifying matches will be  played from the coming Saturday for the Cosafa Castle Cup, 2005.

The following  countries have been drawn in Group A : South Africa , Madagascar , Mauritius and Seycelles .

The first match is scheduled on Saturday at King Georges V Stadium at Curepipe. It will be between Mauritius and Madagascar. At least two of my players have been retained among the 18 players. They are Joye Estazie and Doddy Edouard. Preparation is going on at full swing.  The match should prove to be very interesting .

The second match between South Africa and the Seycelles will be played on the same day.

While I am there I shall keep a close watch on any striker that may be worth a trial at Turf Moor. The last time I proposed a name after consulting the PDG of the Kaizer Chiefs, he had no objection for a trial at Burnley provided the championship at South Africa is completed. I directed the message to the Burnley FC management but no reply reached me.

We have to bear in mind that African players are doing extremely well in the European continent. The players need the necessary push to make themselves good players, but Quinton Fortune who emanates from Kaizer is doing extremely well. So the South African players should not be disregarded.

Everyone here at The Longside wishes Mauritius the best!
