Tonights results have seen Burnley drop to 16th in the table following a Walsall victory although the Clarets do have a game in hand on the Saddlers. One team that didn't gain any ground on us were Gillingham who lost by three goals to one at home to Sunderland despite taking a lead through Paul Shaw, the visitors hit back on the stroke of half time with Stewart Downing getting a goal for the Mackems. In the second half goals by John Oster and Marcus Stewart wrapped up the victory for Mick McCarthy's side who are now upto 4th in the table.

Watford were about to go above Burnley but a late David Healey goal gave Preston all three points after Danny Webber had cancelled out Pawel Abbotts goal early in the second half.

The shock of the night was at the Bescot Stadium where Walsall thumped Nottingham Forest by four goals to one. The goals were courtesy of a Darren Wrack brace,Simon Osborn, Gary Birch got the 4th four minutes from time. The ever impressive Andy Reid got the sole goal for the visitors.

The one other game played tonight was at Brammall Lane which saw Sheffield United brush aside Crewe by two goals to nil. Gordon Armstrong's brother Chris got the first and another penalty by Jack Lester sealed the victory. Sheffield United are now upto third going into Saturday's game with the Clarets.
