Vincent Kompany Appointed Manager

Burnley Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Vincent Kompany as first-team manager.

 The 36-year-old joins after departing the Belgian First Division’s R.S.C Anderlecht where he spent three years. He joined Anderlecht in 2019 as player-manager before taking on the role full-time in August 2020.

 During his first full season as manager, Kompany led the club to a fourth-place finish overseeing a youthful squad with the youngest average age in the league.

 Last season Kompany led Anderlecht to third place, European qualification and the Belgian Cup Final.

 As a player, he spent seven years as Belgian national captain, where he led his country to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals, and captained Manchester City to four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups.

Not confirmed yet but is looking highly likely. I will give him a chance, even though he lacks experience in managing over here, they all have to start somewhere. He will have loads of contacts from his time palying days here and in Belgium so maybe some good loanees or promising signings, provided the Yanks give him money to spend, which I assume they will or he wouldn't be interested in coming here.
It will definitely be an interesting appointment, I am neither for or against.

As a man and player he was admirable but as BFC manager who knows. I would say it depends very much on his management team.

I've discussed very little on this subject this past week...until last night when having a few beers with Morty and neither of us are too enthralled on Kompany being the manager.

Not too fussed who our manager is, can we keep a nucleus of decent players and will Pace back him financially. If we can and he will, we'll be fine, if we can't and he won't, doesn't matter who the gaffer is, we're fecked.

Talks a good talk VK, but then, don't they all.

Pace has a plan, VK likes it, he's buying into it, but as Mike Tyson said, "Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth".

I was excited when Waddle arrived as our manager, especially after watching their first friendly at the Turf - I think against a Belgian club.... However comparing VK with Waddle would be like comparing chalk and cheese. I am really very excited this time.... especially after being gutted by the whimpish way we surrendered our Premiership status. Pace has appointed a winner and one who has had the chance for 3 seasons to learn about being a manager not without a little success.
More experience than SD had and also a defender - what can go wrong? :-)
