Premier League To Introduce VAR

Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to introduce Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to the competition in Season 2019/20. 

 At a Shareholders’ Meeting today, clubs were provided with an update on the non-live VAR trials being undertaken by the League and Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL) this season.

 Key learnings from VAR’s use in the FA and Carabao Cups, and other leagues across the world, were discussed in detail.

After yet another mistake on the week-end we now have calls for the A-League to do away with VAR.The game is just being slowed down and is ruined by it.

Not sure what happened in the A league Shanghai, but the PL is being ruined by all the diving / cheating (see Son v Gooners Sunday for latest example) - I would hope VAR would help stop that.

Just like the NFL over here, it will take a couple of seasons to work the kinks out, but in the end the right call is made and pretty quickly.

I'm in favour - as long as "there was contact" is eliminated from our vocabulary - it's a contact sport for chrissakes! Stay on your feet!

The A-League has reviewed diving post game for years. They had some pretty stiff penalties initially which kept that under control.

This is the second year in the A League for VAR. It isn't going to work.

Its fine for Tennis or cricket but contact sports needs someone who understands the game to be in control of it. Unfortunately the idiots are in control here.

Rugby League has the same issue here. The people in control have no feel for the game. They are making up rules now as they go and are looking for ways not to allow tries etc.

According to an ex ref on Sky Sports today Burnley’s goal last night shouldn’t have stood as the keeper had one hand on the ball while it was on the ground, deeming him to be in control. So much for those that say var will benefit the ‘smaller’ clubs.

Scottish NE news tonight, Aberdeen and St Johnstone managers wanting VAR introduced in the SPL. I’m not a fan of VAR, but when tv audiences and fans at matches with mobiles know for sure which way a decision should go, it’s not fair on the man in the middle to be criticised if he makes a wrong decision on a split second incident which he can’t be sure of.

The Rangers got a perfectly good goal chopped off, glad we dinnae hae VAR, on saying that, I think oor red was a bit harsh.

Watching goals on Sunday and they were saying Harry Kane was obstructing inside the box in the lead up to one of Spurs goals, thought VAR checked all goals, if so VAR still doesn’t end controversy.
The West Ham v Man C game two offside decisions one given one not, millimetres in them, I would have let both stand myself. I’m still not a fan of VAR.

Watched Man C on telly yesterday, oh boy defo pen not given.
FFS the disallowed goal, ok VAR got it right but the rule is a joke.
Im less of a fan of VAR now.
