Jimmy Adamson Number 1 In The Amazon Best Sellers List

This morning Jimmy Adamson The Man Who Said No To England was Number 1 (Kindle) and Number 2 (Hardback) in the Amazon list of The English Football Associations best sellers.
Dave Thomas writes; JA has been top of the English Football Association bestsellers for most of this week... Kindle at number 1 and the hardback in the top half of the list...  As far as I can make out it doesn't mean at all that its selling by the thousand... far from it...The way Amazon work these things out is a mystery to the world's best mathematicians and even the publishers. It would be the easiest thing I'd imagine to put a clicker by each title so that every time someone orders one you can see sales totals... but they don't do that... just the overall ranking in ALL book titles... and there are a million and a half in total... and then the position in the appropriate book category. I've been tweeting and facebooking all week and trying to keep the momentum going. Coverage and promotion from BFC seems to have been minimal, not a great deal of interest from local press... none at all from local radio... and yet this is one of the club's most eminent figures and legends and a really harrowing story once he leaves Burnley. Having read the book myself I can only concur with Dave it is a fascinating insight into the playing and managerial career of one of Burrnley's finest. A question for you, did you know about Jimmy and Sparta Rotterdam? I certainly didn't, buy the kindle or the hard back book and find out loads more, you will certainly enjoy reading this one. Just reading 'On writing' by Stephen King. He got a $400K advance for the paperback rights to the first novel he had published - Carrie, although 50% went to his hardback publishers as he didn't have an agent.
I reckon we'll see DT moving into a mansion soon and turning up to games in a Ferrari.

I was working on an author recently with an advance well in excess of £10m. I suspect it was Dave T under a nom de plume ...

Oh I'd fotgotten about Fergie's autobiog... I've lost track of them all over the years...how many have there been... the story I read/heard was that he talks into a recorder when he's driving and then hands it over to his writer and the two never meet...

surely Dave has not forgotten to mention the first visit of Burnley to Mauritius in 1954 where Jimy Adamson played in all the six matches .
With Christmas coming up guys, good pressie is this one, hardback still in the top 20 at number 19 and the kindle just slipped out at number 21.
Was a shame about his daughters.
One of them used to knock on my door asking me to take her to Jimmy Mac's house (who lives just round the corner).
I didnt actually know who she was until after she passed away.
There's a lot of open ended questions in the book, or thoughts on what he was thinking, or what Bob Lord was thinking. Its a shame we will never know what the real actual thoughts and conversations were between those two. Why did Bob Lord instruct that his memoirs be burnt upon his death?. I'd have loved to have known more about him.
One moan about the book - the print is really small and quite hard to read, and the paper feels very cheap.

Small print and cheap paper... spoiled it for me too... makes it feel like a cheap book... with normal print this would have been a 300+ page book with a substantial feel to it... they didn't do the pics as I wanted them either. I sent them every page with the layout I wanted...
Not much you can do about it at the end of the day.
The Charles Buchan book will be done to a high quality... cos it will be 'me' funding it via subscribers etc

Its funny I hadn't noticed the small print and 'cheap' paper but I've just compared it to Carlisle's large print and little words and can see it would make a difference to the non-aligned reader/buyer.

So how many copies is that DT? I see Saatchi was getting the domestic staff to buy twenty of hiss book at a time on Amazon to see how it affected its position, are you getting H to do your dirty work?!
Not even the publishers know how or what Amazon do with their book categories or lists. The Flech book was flying high in the Kindle lists for two weeks nearly up in the top ten... I did manage to find out it had sold just 12 copies in that time...

No that damned referee book is still there and that Bantams book is far too popular.

I have just retrieved my copy from the manicurists where it has been languishing for a week. The more I read of Bob Lord's rise and fall and egomania the more I think Dave you are missing a trick. There is enough material for either a play/TV mini series script or at the very least a factional tomb a la J Archer on Bob Lord's life and times. His involvement at the highest levels in the administration of the league, the interference in the manager's and players' lives, the interplay with the likes of Monty and Ted Heath, his early life as a barrow boy - its all there!
