Burnley 2 Bolton Wanderers 0

By Burnley FC
August 18 2012

The sun beat down on Turf Moor but it felt like Christmas for the Clarets as they got their Championship campaign off to the perfect start with a comfortable win over Owen Coyle's Bolton.

Burnley's former manager was sent home empty handed as the Clarets of Eddie Howe produced almost the ideal all round performance.
Strikers Martin Paterson and Charlie Austin both found the net, pouncing either side of half time, and at the other end there was a confidence boosting clean sheet for the re-shaped defence expertly marshalled by new captain Jason Shackell.

A little surprised by the attendance, thought there would be more that 20,000 on for that game.

I think we've sold around 8,000 STs (although I could be wrong about that) so that means 6,000 turned up on the day and shelled out £31. At that price I'm surprised so many paid it.

Not sure we can get much more than 20,000 in these days.

I think the capacity was 20,500 when we were in the Prem and wouldn't be surprised if it fallen further since then. Large sections of the Cricket Field Shed looked to be cordoned off yesterday even though Bolton had sold out.

I see that section of special seating in the JML has sold well.

On the plus side they're getting the music right pre-game and at half time and have introduced designated smoking areas for half time.

Good move.

Must admit, i didnt expect us to be that much better than Bolton, as we were. Its the first time in ages that i recognised or knew of, all of the away team. I thought we were in for a tough afternoon, but was happily proven wrong.
We fully deserved the win, and it wouldnt have been an injustice if we'd won by more.
Even at 2-0 up, we still looked the more likely. It was only when we changed tact with the substitutions that Bolton started to get a bit more possession - but they were woefully lacking in the final third.
I know its only the first game, but the future bodes well if we can sustain that level of performance. Im certainly more optimistic about things than i was before kick-off.

Re the section of the JML, I believe according to a customer of mine that with every paid seat in that section you can take a friend on for free
