Alastair Campbell Summarises The Wigan Game

It's one thing to lose games you deserve to lose. We have seen a few of those this season. It's altogether more cruel when you lose the games you could and should have won. And it is even worse when it happens in injury time.

When the fourth official put up the board saying there would be four minutes added time, it was the 5,000 Burnley fans packed into the South Stand who roared in expectation that those minutes might yield a goal. In fairness, we had done everything but score.

But two minutes later, the ball was in the back of our net courtesy of Hugo Rodallega's head and the Burnley players were collapsing in hurt and disbelief.

They could be forgiven for thinking, just for a few unprofessional moments, that there can be no coming back from this.

Of course technically there is. Beat Blackburn at home next Sunday. Upset Hull and Sunderland, even Birmingham away. Maybe get something out of Manchester City, Liverpool and Spurs when they visit Turf Moor. Ok, ok I accept it - things are not looking good now.

But it is testimony to how unlucky we were that the fans cheered them off at half-time and cheered them off even more loudly at the end. There was no shame in this defeat.

Fantastic last paragraph.

Thats what shows that the ones who attend the games are the ones with the manager and players.
