Too Much Xmas Pud For The Clarets

It looks like a case of the Clarets having eaten too much Xmas pud over this festive season, 3,080 travelling fans attended today's game with high expectations of three points but they came away disappointed as the Clarets lost their second Christmas game, this time at the Keepmoat Stadium to Doncaster Rovers by two goals to one.

Burnley started this game well enough, but they gave themselves a mountain to climb after going two goals behind on 40 minutes. The first was a well taken goal on 37 minutes by Jamie Coppinger after Carlisle had made a poor headed clearance, Brian Stock got the second from a twice taken penalty on 40 minutes, Steve Caldwell gave the penalty away after uncerimoniously upending Richie Wellens in the box, he received a red card for his mis-demeanour and will now miss the upcoming 3rd round F.A.Cup tie at QPR and the first leg of the Carling Cup semi final at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur. Two other Clarets booked today were Carlisle and Jordan.

Martin Paterson scored the Claret's only reply in the 62nd minute but unfortunately it was all too little too late as Burnley went down by 2 goals to 1.

The performance today was a very disappointing result all round with the only positive being that Burnley still occupy a place in the top six in the league, they dropped from 4th to 5th as Cardiff City leap frog them after their win at home to Plymouth.

Next up is the 3rd Round F.A.Cup tie at Loftus Road against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday 3rd January 2009.

Sounded very poor even by 2BRs commentary, Carlisle sounded like he had a mare(again), didn't hear Eagles touch the ball only the keeper when his petulant attitude came into play again.

Another bad day at the office, but it is Christmas (Again)

Feel bad enough about the result, but seeing all those Claret fans behind the goals, makes it worse some how.
