At the game tomorrow night against Cardiff City, it will be a very special night for the one and only Burnley legend Jimmy McIlroy. Jimmy has at long last been recognised for his fabulous contribution he has made with Burnley Football Club over the decades,
Burnley supporters will get the chance to celebrate with one of the club’s greatest ever sons when Jimmy McIlroy takes to the Turf on Tuesday night. Clarets legend McIlroy will receive the Freedom of the Borough to mark his contribution to Burnley, on and off the pitch, during a special ceremony at Burnley Town Hall on December 9. And immediately following that ceremony Jimmy will be the special VIP guest at the Burnley FC, making an appearance on the pitch for a special presentation during half-time of the Championship match against Cardiff City. Burnley FC chairman Barry Kilby, who will present a special scroll to Jimmy, said: “This is a richly deserved honour and one that we fully support. “Legend is an over-used word but it clearly applies in this case. “Jimmy is still regarded as one of our greatest sons and he stands alongside such Lancashire greats as Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney and Nat Lofthouse as a real club ambassador. “I cannot think of anyone more worthy of being given the Freedom of the Borough and I am sure all fans will join me in congratulating Jimmy on the honour.” Burnley Football Club is urging as many fans as possible to join in the celebrations and please remain in their seats as half-time commences, to show their appreciation for the Clarets’ greatest ever player.
