Turf Moor again for Berisha

He may have only just scored at Turf Moor against the England B side a couple of weeks ago but Besart Berisha is coming back, not to wear the Albania strip but the Claret and Blue for Burnley as the 21-year old striker joins Burnley for £340,000 in a three-year deal from Hamburg SV.

TURF MOOR AGAIN FOR BERISHA

Albanian International striker, Besart Berisha, who featured in last month's England B international and scored their only goal at Turf Moor has joined the Clarets for a fee of around £340,000.

Besart Berisha
Besart Berisha

Having started his professional career at Hamburg SV until his move today. He has only played in 9 league games and scored one league goal, he has also scored in a Champions League game. However, he has spent time away on loan and at AC Horsens, scored 11 in 32.

Berisha was born in Kosovo but moved to Germany when he was young. Last year he successfully applied for Albanian citizenship and made his international debut against the Netherlands in October.

An impressive show at Turf Moor month and his only goal may have attracted Cotterill to the 21-year old striker.

We've signed two players now and while the Saganowski rumours may not be true with Southampton looking likely to sign to sign the striker, it looks like Steve may still have a few more signings to come before the start of the season.

Welcome to Burnley Besart!

Looks like I was wrong to doubt that we'd be able to sign Berisha. See link from official Hamburg site.

Looked a very good player in the "B" game.

Yep and the one who took the **** out of our left side on a couple of occasions.

He was very quick and tricky.

Hopefully we've just signed a new crowd favourite.

Just wondering if he'll need a work permit tho.

He will if he doesn't have dual nationality and he hasn't played many games for Albania.

He's Kosovar-Albanian, with Kosovo formerly being part of Yugoslavia.

Does that count?

I think it'll be true if the official Hamburg site are reporting it.

LightcliffeClaret
12/06/2007 07:34
Cheap as well.

Berisha: "I held positive talks with the management at Burnley and I had a good feeling about the move." HSV were demanding 500,000 Euro for him.

LightcliffeClaret
12/06/2007 07:35
Just short of £340,000 we've paid.

agreenwoodbfc
12/06/2007 07:37
Think he'll still need a WP unless he's obtained citizenship in Germany.

Not one for making assessments on 1 game, but in that game he was very very impressive. I hope we are going to play a style that will allow him to utilise his skills. I have a suspicion though, that he will play left wing rather than up front.

LightcliffeClaret
12/06/2007 07:40
Says on Wikipedia that he left Kosovo as a child and has been playing with German youth teams since 1994.

Also ag "Besart Berisha received Albanian citizenship in September 2006" so presumably he had Yugoslav/Serbian beforehand???

Don't know if that counts as dual nationality or a dual passport.

agreenwoodbfc
12/06/2007 07:47
Albanian citizens and citizens of Yug would need a WP.

It's irrelevant anyway if he's been in Germany for 13 years. There's no way his clubs wouldn't have naturalised him even if he hadn't done it beforehand himself.

It's all there on the net, but basically you'd need a WP if you were from outside the EU.

The club shop as been closed until today as they all went on a racing trip, so perhaps the people who update the site also went.

Just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Papadopolous. The fact he's been in Germany and playing in their leauge may help him adjust I guess.
