A quick guide to Newcastle Falcons . . . and a warm welcome to the Championship to all their supporters, players and officials.
Newcastle were founded in 1877 as Gosforth Football Club by a group of Old Boys of Durham School, they played in green and white until the mid-1990s
In 1990 they changed names to Newcastle Gosforth and moved to Kingston Park stadium.
The current name: Newcastle Falcons was adopted at the start of the professional era.
In 1996 they adopted the current black-and-white, after local businessman Sir John Hall had taken control.
Kingston Park was the smallest stadium in the Premiership with an average crowd of 4,500.
According to Newcastle’s website, Kingston Park has undergone a number of facelifts, firstly with the installation of a temporary stand on the western side of the ground, and most recently the construction of three completely new permanent stands.
These are the main West Stand, the popular covered terracing of the John Smiths Stand and the uncovered terracing of the North Stand.
Travel
The stadium is 5 minutes from Newcastle International Airport and close to both Kingston Park and Kenton Bank Foot Metro stations.
By taxi it’s only a 4 mile drive to Newcastle city centre and only 2 minutes from the A1.

When I lived in Newcastle in the 80s I was picked to play for my then club [Novocastrians] in their flagship fixture, New Years Day at Gosforth.
I was home for the holidays so spent most of New Years Eve [10 hours] driving back to Newcastle.
The pitch was frozen and the game called off.
Probably just as well.....

Falcons supporter here.
I'll definitely be down for our match with you, & I'm really looking forward to it.
If the game is confirmed as Sunday 23rd Sept I'll be on the bike & down for Saturday & leaving on Monday. Until the RFU get their brains back into gear, I'll leave hotel bookings until later.
Advice about where to drink in Penzance would be good, & to meet up with some of you would be a bonus.
I may not be alone!

You will find Plenty of drinking establishments in Penzance, all they way from the station to the ground you will find Pirate and visiting fans having a beer (or perhaps a coke) in the bars on the way. Also plenty of places to get a meal if you need solid food.
There are also pubs and cark parks within a short walk of the ground, which is found on Alexandra rd just off the promenade.
More accurate directions I will leave to others. I get lost in a phone box!

Hardly off topic as I was marketing manager of a North East brewery so occasionally had to make work related sorties onto the Princess.....

Hi all, Chiefs supporter here, just to say that Falcons away is a cracking weekend. We flew up on the cheap as booked early, everything you need is on the Metro system so its easy to enjoy the match, their great supporters and the night life.

I do hope you will make the trip up. If you ask on the Wuss board they will give details of their arrangements for coming up here. They have it sussed, hotel in Tynemouth which is on the coast a few miles from the city, they even do a dip in the North Sea being mad people, shifts a hangover though. If you can make a short holiday of it then I hope you explore my native Northumberland. Many similarities to Cornwall being a long way from our crapital city & nobody gives a stuff about us. Population density is so low that the only neighbours we can see from our house are three miles away, and we have a laid back attitude to life.
We will be at the Mennaye in September, making the most of your hospitality, well as much as responsible parents of a 4 month old can anyway. We are making a bit of a holiday out of it, exploring your nooks & crannies if you will pardon the expression.

Last time I was up there in Dry Dock (South Shields) and previously when we used to run into Sunderland - all the Pubs had PVC seats (benches).
I remember the pub just outside the dock gates in Sunderland, you could see the light from the gas lamps, glistening on the rain soaked cobbles just under the railway bridge.
People were great, sailed with a few, so looking forward to the trip

Gotta concur with Monkey 1 regarding Northumberland.
Had a girlfriend who lived in Alnwick ( 35 miles north of Newcastle) at one time so stomped around the area a bit.
It's a lot like " God's Country" but the area round the coast is flatter
Highlights for me....
Lindisfarne ( a bit far up the coast unless you're taking a car but peaceful and with a couple of good pubs !!)
Bamburgh: The beach below the castle is a belter even in the winter if you wrap up warm !

The last time I was in Newcastle was in 1987, when in the royal Navy, just after a certain team there had won the FA cup. I had my picture taken with it when it was brought onboard the Ark Royal. I went to watch a local kickabout wendyball game between Newcastle United and Swindon in a now infamous 4 - 0 win which was the source of a 'bung' fiasco involving Lou McCarie (Swindon manager). It was back in the good old days when Gazza played for them and was at this best. The nights out in town were fantastic with a great party atmosphere and you were made welcome. Hope it's the same now and the documentaries of it being a rough place to go are not true!
A couple of seasons ago we (pirates) played Donny on a Friday evening, and Plymouth argyle were playing Newcastle united on the Saturday.
So,drove up to donny on the Friday, watched us win, thence onto Newcastle and stayed at a premier inn right beside the river next to the bridge.
Went to the football match, got on fine with both argyle and newcastle fans and had a great weekend in the city.
Did go to Gosforth when Gloucester played there in 1980 for a cup match, which Glos lost 3-0 in an awful game and apart from that can remember very little...

PS. While I'm on - There's a rumour going around the Nat2 section of Rolling Maul" that "Villi" is headed to Redruth. Anyone confirm this?

Coventry won the FA cup in 1987...
There's something for everyone as far as a night out goes.
Really looking forward to linking up with the Geordies in Sept and even more so the trip in January. Great people.

Yes, I found it very good, in a great location, although I did come off at the wrong place and get lost but thats usual for me. It is actually quite easy to find.
Its featured on the Tv advert where you can see the bridge through the window.
Plenty of bars and eateries nearby but the food there was fine. My stay also co- incided with the great north run so it was busy!
Will be staying there again come January...
