In the wake of the FA Cup quarter-final victory against Tranmere, Millwall chairman Theo Paphitis paid tribute to Dennis Wise’s managerial skills by complimenting his tactical nous.
Paphitis described Wise as the best he’s worked with in this respect, and after the 4-3-3 formation employed against Tranmere’s 5-3-2 was so successful you can see why.

However, it was no easy task beating the Division Two side and as their boss Brian Little rightly said they certainly gave the Lions a bit of a scare.

But Wise is more than just tactics. He’s an inspiration. His infectious will to win can be felt by the fans as well as the players, and perhaps he can become Millwall’s most successful manager of all-time.

After all, he’s already written himself into the Lions’ history books by leading the club into the semi-finals of the FA Cup, equalling the pre-war achievements of 1900, 1903 and 1937.
