Update

I am pleased to report that our pre-season training is proving to be both very productive and highly “enjoyable”. The three weekly sessions have been well supported and we are developing a young, talented and competitive squad (particularly at the strongman sessions on Saturday mornings).

There is a definite culture change this season where our emphasis is particularly geared towards developing a group of players who are predominantly local boys looking to improve their game and offer true rugby value to our Club.

At the same time our goal is to compete for promotion and earn a place back in National 1.

As you probably already know the squad will be captained by Will Radburn who, apart from 2 full time seasons in the Worcester Academy, has been with us since the age of 5.

Will played with us on loan last season and the other guys retained are Matt Long, Liam Dunne, Rob Gregg, Rob Connolly, Jack Pons, Jack Jolly and Jon Ford plus Matt Spink, Lewis Beaty and Ollie Blundell who step up from the Colts.

It’s also great to see the return of Darren Forder (Open side flanker doubling up as our Strength & Conditioning Coach), Steve Leach (Centre), both of whom came through our thriving Mini & Junior Section.

I will be helped by former Coventry & Jersey back row Henno Venter who with a great deal of experience behind him will coach the forwards as well as play.

We have made a number of other significant signings and I will be in a position to make further announcements in the next few weeks.

Please feel free to come down and see the lads in training – Saturday 10am and Tuesday/Thursday 7.00pm.

Your first opportunity to see the lads competitively will be during our comprehensive warm up programme.

We had a very rewarding and “interesting” behind closed door conditioned game v Moseley on Monday. This Saturday 11th August - KO 10.30am we visit Sils Rugby for another conditioned game (open door) followed by a trip to Dings Crusaders (Bristol) coached by Mark Woodrow on Saturday 18th August KO 2.00pm. Finally we entertain Macclesfield on Saturday 25th August – KO 3.00pm at Portway.

We’ve already had a couple of social sessions (including the squad contributing whole heartedly to the Mini & Junior clean up day) and the team spirit is building up nicely.

We need your support more than ever this season please guys and I can guarantee that you will see no less than 100% commitment from everyone involved.

Have a great season.

Regards.

Eugene.
