Despite intense speculation in the Italian press of a return to Serie A in the summer for Newcastle United midfielder Emre, the club has took time out to reassure fans that both Emre and Owen will be remaining with the club for the foreseeable future. Caretaker manager, Glenn Roeder stated:

"I don't think there is any reason whatsoever to think that either player will leave the club."

"There's nothing that I've seen, detected or heard that suggests that Michael and Emre won't be here next year.

"We certainly need to keep our best players, without doubt. Michael and Emre are up there with our very, very, very best players that we have here.

"If the club is to progress next season whoever is in charge, they must have Michael Owen and Emre in the squad."

Both players have been speculated to leave almost since the minute of their arrivals, but, it could be that Newcastle’s late rally to the season could have convinced the duo to remain on Tyneside, where the public an hopefully enjoy a more productive season from the often injured pair next time out.
