Real set to scupper Liverpool bid for Figo?

Former World Player of the Year Luis Figo’s bid to join Liverpool this morning looks in serious danger of breaking down, over a Real Madrid demand that they pay 3 million euros for the player. It was widely understood, that Figo would be allowed to leave for free and negotiations took place under this proviso, but now Madrid are saying this was not the case and a payment should be made.

He does have a year of his contract remaining, but one of Figo’s representatives Luis Douens, admitted that the deal could be off if Real insist on payment stating:


"An agreement exists with Liverpool, but the decision rests on Real. If they want money for the transfer then I believe it will be hard."
