AC Milan defeat player reactions
After allowing Juventus to take the initiative in the title race several AC Milan players gave their version of events as to what happened.
First up Manuel Rui Costa who is adamant that the title race is still very much on:
'After being able to make the breakthrough we could have controlled the game much better. Instead Chiesa scored an equaliser and then they got the winner. It was three important points for us but we didn't manage to get them which was also down to our opponents. They did well. I think we played in a positive way if you don't consider the result. We slipped up and allowed them to comeback but we can't give up. We are ready to accept any criticism that may come our way but we are also ready to reply. From now on, all games are finals, we have lost the first but not the Scudetto. The title is still our objective.'
Marcos Cafu felt it was the chances missed that cost AC so badly:
'Siena profited from chances, we didn't. It's a pity as we didn't play badly. We wanted to win the game at all costs and Siena's second goal caught us out. We have to bounce back, the championship is still long and the battle with Juventus is not over yet.'
While Hernan Crespo was willing to give Siena the credit:
'We could have controlled the game better, but that's down to Siena. We didn't play badly but credit must go to Siena, in can happen that you come away with nothing. It's a pity Sheva's goal was disallowed, it was onside and you deny it would have made our task easier. Anyway, we have a chance to get back immediately against Chievo.'
And the final word to Shevchenko who felt his goal should have stood:
'My goal should have stood, it would have given us an easy win. Now starts an important period, we needed these three points. It was a strange game but we have to look forward.'
