Tottenham, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Newcastle are all keeping a close eye on Sporting Lisbon’s Joao Moutinho, whose displays in Europe this season have been catching a fair amount of Premiership interest.
Only 18 and one of the lowest paid players in the Sporting team, it is thought he would jump at the chance to move to the Premiership.
Newcastle could very well hold the trump card in landing the defensive midfielder as Sporting are desperate to keep Hugo Viana, but are having difficulty in raising the necessary funds.
If a player plus cash deal can be worked out in Newcastle’s favour remains to be seen, however they are expected to bring the subject up when they visit Sporting for the return leg.
